Differin

Monday, March 31st, 2003

I have been using Differin for over a year, i
think. When I first started it, it made me break out
more (as does everything in the beginning), now
honestly i don’t know if it is helping or not..it is very
gentle, won’t dry me out at all… but since i am also on
minocycline, i dont know which one is working better, or if
they are working together. Either way, I’m afraid to
stop using them. But my skin is definitely better now
than it was a few years ago, when i wasn’t using
either. Differin is worth a try, it’s not harsh at all.

Going to the gym

Monday, March 31st, 2003

I told everyone before that my husband and I
joined a gym. Well, should I say that the affects of the
gym have been great. A little circulation and a
little sweat. I read in a book that sweating helps break
up the oils in the hair follicles and releases the
oil and the dead skin cells through your pores. I
believe it!!!! My face has been doing great. I have
experienced a flare up. but so what, it was gone the next day
because I got proper rest. I had a bunch of acne forming
under my skin and my face was really sore. (That day, I
was really stressed) Well, after getting a good
nights sleep I woke up the next morning and I was
clear…with the exception of a cyst that has been dying for
sometime now…LOL!!!

I have been watching what I
eat. A low fat diet. Partly because of my skin but

10% Benzoil Peroxide

Sunday, March 30th, 2003

Sometimes your face needs to adjust to the higher
levels of BP. You may need to start off with a 2.5% or a
5% dose. Apply it once a day and then as your face
gets used to it just apply it twice a day. Once in the
morning and then again at night. Your skin may adjust
faster than mine. I had to use the same level of BP for
about a 3-4 week period. And then I had to go a little
higher. You will experience some redness as this is due
to the chemical process that is taking place. But
once your skin gets used to it you will be just fine.
Remember to start with a low dose and then gradually make
your transition. The peeling comes from the BP
removing dead skin. But if you use a dose that your skin
is not used to the BP removes skin that just isn’t
dead yet. So, take your time and move up gradually.

Acne and Tanning debate

Saturday, March 29th, 2003

I realize that tanning is not good for you, but
It can be very therapeutic. I am careful not to
expose my face to the harmful rays, I use a hat or cover
my face with my towel. I use a really good self
tanner made just for the face and it is dermatologist
tested too. It does not break me out at all, rather it
seems to help clear me up. It is Lancome self tanner
for face. It doesn’t streak or leave splotches
either. I know there are several other good ones out
there if you look.I think this is the better way to get
the even look of a tan without damaging your
skin.
Shannon

tanning and acne…

Saturday, March 29th, 2003

the sun is bad for you, yes i agree with
you!
plus a lot of acne medicine requires that you stay out
of the sun. but for short term solutions to acne i
think it is great.
i have used tan in a bottle and
other self tanning lotions. some of them turned my skin
a bit orange. most my friends could not tell i was
using it. it made me dark…i loved it. the problem is
i only used it when my skin was clear because i
thought it clogs your pores.
bryan

tanning and acne…

Saturday, March 29th, 2003

I hate to sound like a mother here, because I am
17, but tanning really is not good for you. It may
seem like it at the time, but overall, the effects (in
my opinion, at least) do not outweigh the benefits.
YES, the sun dries out your pimples, and YES, you look
better. But sun and tanning cause premature aging of the
skin and skin cancer. As a 17-year-old with a
pre-cancerous mole that was removed a couple of months ago, I
urge you to really rethink this decision. I hate to
sound like I am bitchy, but I truly believe that
wearing sunscreen in the summer and not tanning is the
way to go. I don’t walk around in full body coverings
during the summer, of course not, but you can bet this
summer I will be buying a lot more sunscreen. I will
miss tanning and the sun, and tan in a bottle is too

tanning and acne…

Friday, March 28th, 2003

i would like to say a few things about tanning.
i
love getting a tan every summer for many
reasons.
first, a tan makes your complextion more complete.
instead of having fair skin with red dots (which stand
out), you have a complextion that has a more even
appearence. i look at pictures of me from the winter and
summer. the summer pictures look like i have 0 zits,
while the winter pictures show mild acne. i’ve always
had the same amount of acne, the only difference…a
tan!
summer is good
bryan

neosporin for acne?

Friday, March 28th, 2003

Tanning while you see a dermatologist!?!?! You
are very, very, brave!! About the Neosporin thing,
I’ve heard of that before, it is supposed to work
really well. What about Visine to get the redness out?
Some people swear by that, to put a little on a q-tip
and then on the blemish, and it gets rid of the
redness. I’m still sticking with my good old
dermatologist-prescribed products though…. :-) Shannon– thanks for the
advice with Accutane. My doc said he’s not too
concerned, but if I need it one more time, we’ll try it
again. It’s like with any medication, if it doesn’t
work, you end up getting kind disheartened and
discouraged. Thank you again!!

Take Care,
neosporin for acne?

Thursday, March 27th, 2003

I agree-neosporin helps the popped zit heal
faster. Good job bringing that to everyone’s attention. I
also thought of something else the other day. I go
tanning and with my treatment from the derm. I’m able to
do this. I know those of you on accutane can’t but I
thought maybe the rest of you might be able to. Believe
it or not, tanning makes the skin smoother and acts
as a drying effect to acne(well, some forms). Just a
thought. I use tanning as a beauty regime but it works
wonders on acne also. It makes you feel good inside and
out. To the person who just got off accutane and had a
recent breakout-my cousin’s b/f got off of it a year ago
and he had a breakout right away as soon as he got
off. He dealt with it for a while and his skin finally
healed up FOR GOOD! I never knew by looking at him that
