went to the doc today………
hello everyone!! well i finally did it!! i had my
appointment to talk to my doc about my acne. i cant beleive
it though, the first thing he suggested was accutane
and i saw him during one of my "good face" days too.
he took one glance at my face and asked if i was
sexually active or plan to be within the next 6 months
because he wanted to put me on accutane. i mean, i have
considered accutane a lot and i havent exactly scratched it
off my options list yet, but i thought accutane would
be too strong for my type of acne. yes, i have
stubborn acne(mild-moderate),some cystic, but i thought
accutane was mostly for ppl who have tried EVERYTHING or
ppl with severe cystic acne. he then asked me if i
knew about accutane and if i have considered it. i
told him yes, but i wanted to try some other
prescriptions first to see if it would work. the only thing i
have tried is tetra and a prescription BP gel and both
of these did NOTHING. well, he told me he will
prescribe me minocycline and to come back in a month to see
if it did anything. he told me that if the
minocycline doesnt do anything, when i come back we will
discuss accutane. you wouldnt believe how shocked i was
when the first thing he said was accutane. i mean he
looked at my face for 3 secs and decided. the way i
understand it is that accutane should be taken more
seriously or am i just concetrating too much on the
negative rather than the positive. well if this
minocycline doesnt do anything for me i will probably go on
accutane. im a little scared because i heard that it could
make some acne worse. i would have to say that i dont
care what the heck it does to my body, be it permanent
or temporary, as long as i have clear skin and it
doesnt make my skin worse. i feel so careless because
the only reason i dont want to take it right away is
because of the possible breakout period, the chance it
could make my acne worse and not do anything at the end
of the cycle, or i would suffer from premature
aging(something i heard could happen). im not, at all, thinking
about the other side effects it could have on my body,
as long as it helps my skin. well i have 100mg of
the minocycline. im going to make an appointment with
a dermatologist soon to get a second opinion and if
they suggest accutane….im going for it!! has anyone
had/have experience with the minocycline? BTW, is accutane
covered under most insurance? i have a great plan at
work, but im not sure if they will cover accutane. they
covered my minocycline, i only paid $5 for it. i heard
accutane can cost up to $300-$500 a month, but with
insurance it will only cost $13-$20 a month.
