Welcome to the club, Mary! I hope the topical
eurythramycin works for you. I took eurythramycin pills for a
while but they didnt help me. tetracycline pills worked
great for me, but like you, i got lazy and stopped
taking them.

Nina
It’s SO nice to find a place where people can
understand what you’re going though! When you’re 21, and in
college, it often seems like you’re the only person in the
universe that has this problem! I’ve read a lot of the
past posts and they have been very
informative.
I’ve tried just about every OTC product that exists
and they either don’t work and all or dry my skin so
badly I’d rather have the acne than a dry, flaky,
peeling face! I’ve also tried Proactiv and the Murad
Solution. Proactiv made my skin feel nice and soft, but
didn’t clear the acne like I hoped it would. I think it
actually made it a little worse. This past summer I tried
the Murad Solution (whoops!). This stuff did a number
on my face. They tell you that it may make your skin
worse in the beginning because it has to go through the

i agree. over active oil glands PLUS clogged pores cause a bacteria infection
a.k.a. zit
i just didn’t include that part on my first statement.
bryan
That makes some sense but people with very very
dry skin still get zits. Its also a bacteria problem.
Thats why antibiotics (minocycline, tetracyline etc)
help acne. Its not just an oil probalem because people
with dry skin get zits too.

Nina
i’ve heard all the myths (masterbation,
chocolate, greasy food, etc.) let me tell you what the facts
are. this is the widespread belief amongst skin
doctors. the reason skin breaks out is OVERACTIVE OIL
GLANDS that are under the skin.
as acne suffers we
have been predetermined via are over active oil
glands, to have zits. we can treat the side effects (red
bumps) but the problem lies deep beneath the skin. the
reason the powerful drug accutane is effective in
clearing up the skin…sometimes for good is because the
drug actually "shrinks" the oil glands and they end up
producing less/ a normal amount of oil on the skins
surface. so just deal with the fact that we got a bad deal
in the oil glands department, and pray they don’t
act up too much.
if anyone questions what i have

i have been told by two deratologists that eating
greasy food will NOT cause acne. just like i have a
friend who eats chocolate by the pound (remember the old
chocolate causes acne myth)yet
my friend never gets
acne. zero zits. but if you tend to break out over
something….of course aviod it!! if i knew the cause of my acne,
i would never eat it, and have perfect skin, it’s
not that easy for me.
bryan
Thanks for your response, but I disagree. Ingesting greasy foods affects my
complexion. I’ve been dealing with my skin problems longer than you’ve been
alive. ![]()
The reason your skin gets worse when you eat
greasy foods is probably because the grease on the food
somehow comes in contact with your skin. Either by your
hands touching it and then touching your face or just
the air. Its probbaly best to skip these foods
anyway, not just for your skin, but for overall
health.

Nina
Hello all, I’m a new member. I’m in my 30s and
still fighting acne.

My "latest"
dermatologist has me using Differin cream during the day and
Avita cream at night. At first, it burned the hell
outta my skin but now its much better. Slowly, but
surely, my face seems to be improving. I have good and
bad days.

Has anyone had any success with
either of these creams?

Also someone posted a
while back that their doctor said that "greasy food"
causing acne is a myth. I don’t know, but if I eat deep
fried food or potato chips, my skin goes straight to
hell. I definitely believe that what you eat and drink
affects your skin, just like it affects all other aspects
of your health.

Sorry for the long post. ![]()
