Makeup

I don’t think make up is the *cause* for acne,
but it certainly can aggravate it. This is what my
derm says. "Your acne will get better sooner if you
don’t wear makeup. However, I’m not going to say you
CANNOT wear makeup, because most people will lie and
wear it anyways. Since you’re going to wear it, cut
back and use 30% less than you already are." So, I cut
out powder totally. He recommended Clinique Superfit
base, but I like Aveda Base better, so I use that.
Maybe try a tinted moisturizer (I use Cover Girl in the
summer.). I would say wear your make up, just less of it if
you think its aggravating your acne.

Take
care,
Karyn

P.S. Acne is acne. Acne with a
lot of make up covering it up is still acne. When I
started to cut back, it was hard at first, but I kept

I talked to my Derm about makeup a long long time
ago, and he said that as long as the makeup is
oil-free & non-comodeogenic(sp) then it really won’t harm
your skin…He said if you don’t wear foundation you
can actually be letting in the dirt from the
air/environment anyway, so actually wearing foundation - as long
as it’s good - is not a bad thing :) Hope this
helps!

Jen

Makeup

Friday, January 30th, 2004

I’ve had acne for about 8 years now, I just turn
20. and since I was 13, I have been wearing
foundation. I first started to wear making because I liked
the way I looked with it(I wanted to be grown), but
as the years went on, I wore makeup to cover my oh
so many dark spots. Do ya think that wearing
foundation is the cause for me having acne so long. I mean I
wont leave the house without it. I would rather die
then go anywhere without my makeup.

antibiotics or natural products?

You will really need to answer this on your own.
So many different people (including myself) will
have different suggestions, and will all think their
idea is the right way to go! (Including myself
again!!) I don’t want to tell you what to do, but I will
share what I did. Personally, I didn’t feel that the
drug store/department store remedies were working all
that well for me. My mom and dad both had bad acne as
teenagers, so after 3 years of over the counter stuff, they
suggested that I see a dermatologist. I love my derm’s
office. Everyone there is great, and to me, I feel better
knowing that a doctor is managing what I’m using, and
that when I do use oral stuff, I’m getting rid of the
acne from the inside out, not just covering it up. I
did antibiotics, Accutane, and about a zillion

antibiotics or natural products?

Thursday, January 29th, 2004

i’m at a crossroads where i can decide to go back
to a dermatologist and take oral antibiotics,
retin-a, and follow the western-medecine route, or decide
to heal my acne holistically with accupuncture,
natural products, and the right diet. i talked to a
friend of mine who has been suffering from adult acne
for years, who has been to the dermatologist many
many times, and she said that a program of facials,
accupuncture, diet and natural products has done wonders for
her - it just takes a lot of time and a lot of money
(insurance won’t cover it). she says not even to bother with
going to a dermatologist.

what does everybody
think about one way or the other? is there a way to
combine antibiotics and natural healing? help!

My derm recommends Purpose also. They’re all
good, it’s just about what you’re accustomed to, and
what you love. I *love* Cetaphil and I *love* Complex
15, so I can vouch for those!

–Karyn

You know, I believe the last time I bought a
bottle of it was maybe in July? I’m almost out, but
still using it! It’s $6.99 for 16 ounces (the RA
brand), and it’s much cheaper and has the same
ingredients as Cetaphil. This is a bigger size that the
biggest Cetaphil bottle also. It will last you a very
long time. A conservative guess would be that I buy a
16 ounce bottle every two months, however I think I
could go for 3 months on one bottle. Regardless, you’ll
love it, and it’s worth the money.

Karyn
