Newbie Ellen- - -

Thursday, September 30th, 2004

Hi guys- - - I’m Ellen and I just joined the group… I’m 20 and
preparing for a wedding and I want beautiful skin!!! I ‘ve always had
pimples… not necessarily full blown acne, but my cases have been
severe enough for doctor intervention. I really thought the laser
thing sounded great, and I’m eager to look into it, but I’ve found
alot of great tips just browsing through so I figured I’d give my
$.02 about a couple products I’ve used, and other general ramblings
=o)

Velocity- Mary Kay… seemed to be okay if you respond well to
sysalic acid products, however I do not and I did not like this
product… My face felt clean, but after using witch hazel I noticed
it didn’t really remove makeup all that well

witch Hazel- I find it to be a good all around astringent, it cleans

Greatest Acne Tip!

Monday, September 27th, 2004

I never had acne until I got into my mid twenties. I am now 30 with a severe
case of cystic acne. I have tried just about every antibiotic and topical
applications. None of them have really worked. I have been dreading the moment I
was going to have no other alternative than to get on Accutane. I have found
something that has worked at last! Have you seen the info on the acne light?
Well I wanted to try it but I thought the investment was way too much for
something I didn’t know if it would work for me. There is this laser treatment
place here in Tucson, AZ that treats pain and scar tissue with lasers. They had
a free 10 minute session so I took it. I had the treatment on Tuesday and my
face is finally clearing up!!! :O It’s based on the concept that light has
various penetrations of the skin depening on nm (nanometers). The FDA has
approved the Clearskin system which provides the blue light (415nm) and the red
light (620nm to treat cyctic acne. It can go deep into the skin to kill the
bacteria without any drying creams or life threating treatments. I tried it for
15 minutes at 620-680nm and it didn’t hurt at all! It just gives you a prickly

Tips

Friday, September 24th, 2004

Try changing your pillow case more often, you rub your skin against
it every night in your sleep and press dirt into your pores. Change
to a smooother, softer case to irritate your skin less.
Also try washing your hands more often, you touch your face without
realising it a million times every day and restribute dirt from
everything you have touched over the day on your sensitive skin. A
friend of mine had great results of doing this methodically every
hour.
Think about your hair too, if its long enough to touch your face,
you risk spreading gel or the hairs natural oils on your sensitive
skin.

ANYTHING FOR ACNE SCARS?

Thursday, September 23rd, 2004

Hi Nisha. Scars are the worst! Many folks who have lots of money
look into various peeling services. The plastic surgeons and/or
dermatologists would be the specialties I’d consult, and would consult both
to see. A face peel would be out of your own pocket, however, as insurance
companies won’t deem scar removal as medically necessary. In the
alternative, the doc might suggest a milder peeling you could do at home
(there are many methods), but always heed his cautions. The at-home variety
would be more gradual and affordable. Again, either of those two doctors are
your best advisory, so I’d start there, even with any of our suggestions.
Speaking of suggestions or recommendations, no … but I do have some
ideas, merely thoughts to throw out there, so here goes …
If you do any type of peeling, skin care and protection would be
vital, as would maximum sun protection. You’d be not only exfoliating the
deadest top layers, you’d be going a little deeper. You’d probably have to
avoid scrubs totally, as any additional skin removal could be dangerous. In

ANYTHING FOR ACNE SCARS?

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2004

Hi,

regarding NIsha’s e-mail, I have some questions for
the members of this group:
do you think cosmetic surgery can help removing the
scars from acne?
I know that medical insurances don’t cover such
surgeries, but I was wondering if this could be a
solution.
Does anyone know?

thank you.

ANYTHING FOR ACNE SCARS?

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2004

Hey..
Well I talked to my doctor today, and I have some good news and bad
news in regards to my skin…The good news is that I probabley won’t
breakout anymore because my acne is gone but the bad news is that the
scars from the acne are still there…I asked him what I should do
and he told me that there is nothing that I can do accept for, just to
use the current topical acne treatment liquid gel that he gave me
before, and this other cold cream type thing in a jar that heals
scars and stuff..he also told me(if I wanted to), to use a vitamin A
cream with the cold cream so it moisturizes my skin and prevents
infections. Also, he told me to use less usage of makeup because that
causes infections…
But the bad thing was that I can’t do anything about my scars,
that some of them can heal but most of them will stay…
Can any of you out there suggest a surefire remedy for acne scars

Minocycline long term use

Monday, September 20th, 2004

I have been using minocycline for 6 months now. I am going to taper
off my dosage and get off of it in about 2 or 3 months. It has
improved my acne and I was wondering if anyone else has used
minocycline for over 6 months. Has anyone here been on minocyline
for over 6 months and have had no problems? I have heard of people
being on it for a year or even longer with no problem. I am afraid
of getting off of it cause I do not want my acne to come back. Maybe
someone can share wih me their expierience with getting off of
minocyline.

cleaning the skin?

Saturday, September 18th, 2004

Just an observation…

I see on here everyone wants to know how to get rid of acne but no
one is really asking about CLEANING! Thats step 1! Drinking ample
water daily and then if all else fails, a treatment method. I
realize some people have ‘tried everything’ but start first with a
skin care program that cleans and moisturizes your skin on a daily
basis!! If you are already on one, GREAT! Then you should try the
Acne Treatment Gel from Mary Kay.

I hope this msg touches at least one person…Have a great day!!

toothpaste

Friday, September 17th, 2004

I doubt it matters what kind of toothpaste, but don’t know. Probably
the bargain stuff. The actress who played Chrissy Snow on Three’s Company
had a book published called "Secrets." As a child, there was no extra money
for anything like clearisil so, when she got a pimple, she’d clean her face
before bed, apply a dab of toothpaste and let it dry overnight. In the
morning, she’d do her morning routine and the pimple was "gone."
Be warned, however, that toothpaste is extremely drying … before I
married my DH who uses appropriate materials such as spackling, I used to use
toothpaste to fill in nail holes in the drywall whenever I rearranged
pictures … it’s actually quite an effective compound for that :) I’ve actually heard so much more enticing information about potatoes
being anti-inflammatory and shrinking a pimple down quickly, but it’s so
awkward to slice and hold … you might consider a paste of real dehydrated
potato flakes and aloe juice, as it sounds as or more effective and
definitely gentler and less drying (Mmmmm).
