Newbie Ellen- - -

Hi guys- - - I’m Ellen and I just joined the group… I’m 20 and
preparing for a wedding and I want beautiful skin!!! I ‘ve always had
pimples… not necessarily full blown acne, but my cases have been
severe enough for doctor intervention. I really thought the laser
thing sounded great, and I’m eager to look into it, but I’ve found
alot of great tips just browsing through so I figured I’d give my
$.02 about a couple products I’ve used, and other general ramblings
=o)

Velocity- Mary Kay… seemed to be okay if you respond well to
sysalic acid products, however I do not and I did not like this
product… My face felt clean, but after using witch hazel I noticed
it didn’t really remove makeup all that well

witch Hazel- I find it to be a good all around astringent, it cleans

like rubbing alcohol without much drying. Good for removing little
traces of makeup and oil

Proactiv- the astringent part of the program smelled a little funky
due to the sulfer, but seemed to work well… I still had some traces
of acne, but I noticed an overall improvement of my skin. I
glowed… haha Smoother, not dull and dry looking as it can sometimes
look after using random medications

Benzymacin (perscription)- I swear by it… I used it as a supplement
to proactiv. For emergency breakouts I can glob it on in the evening
and in the morning the swelling of it has usually subsided. I’m left
w/ a red mark, but that’s easily coverable with some concealer… as
long as it isn’t swollen and hurting

Ice- great for reducing the swelling of a pimple when I feel it coming

Dial- Cleans well… sometimes have makeup left over and so I use
the witch hazel

Clinque cleaning bar- used for a couple weeks in conjunction w/ their
foundation and was very very unhappy

mearl norman luxivia- worked well for removing makeup but seems more
for normal skin not oily skin types.

toothpaste- hated it… seemed to eat away my skin, but the pimple
was gone… just had a really bad infection in place of it.

And my dumbest stunt of all…. I was taking some antibiotic for my
acne and decided if it could work from the inside out it could work
from the outside in. I made a paste out of the contents in the
capsule and put it on my pimple over night. Well it pretty much ate
my skin in that area, left a crater like indention, pussed, scabbed
over green due to the color or the medicine. I was lucky and didn’t
get a scar, but PLEASE guys do not be as stupid as I was coming up
with my own solutions!

Well I hope my critiques help some of you guys… now I need your
help- - -

I’m on a quest to find a new cleanser that removes makeup, doesn’t
irritate acne and doesn’t dry skin… I have a friend that uses a
cleanser by origins…. have any of you tried any of their
cleansers… or prescriptive??

    Hi, Ellen, and welcome …

    > Well I hope my critiques help some of you guys…

They’re fantastic …both from perspective that you’ve been able to classify
for the reader the actives and your reactions along with your specific skin
    type … mucho info

Sometimes the best solutions are the cheapest … plain, regular, ground-up
rolled oats. Many prefer to make a muslin bag, fill w/oats, wet it and use
the "milk" … itself a fantastic cleanser that removes dirt, doesn’t
irritate acne or any other condition (whether oily or dry), and holds water,

so doesn’t dry skin … yet seems to help "drying" excess oils in pimples
(don’t ask why, I’m not a chemist). I’ve yet to ever hear of anyone who’s
used ground oats to have an adverse feeling or reaction. As for the
messiness of the muslin bag, changing the oats / washing the bag, I prefer to
use the ground oats "open." I put about a Tbsp. in my palm, add a few drops
of warm water - just to moisten into a cereal-like paste (that gummy fibrous
"milk"), and wash. It’s a clean and emotionally nice smell, too, and your
    skin will thank you.

    Hi Ellen,

Believe it or not, Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly is great for removing any and
all kinds of makeup for me and of course it did not dry my skin out. Try
it and let me know if it worked for you.

Thanks Angela and Katie… I’ve used vaseline to remove eye makeup
before, but never thought to use it on my entire face… Perhaps I
shall try the vaseline trick tonight along with the ground oats…
is this the same as regular ‘ol oatmeal??

  4. aja_30 Says:

Yes, Ellen … regular, rolled oats. I grind them up in a blender and store
    airtight (don’t let water in).

Vaseline is good for removing makeup and, if we weren’t on AcneTips, I
wouldn’t think a thing of your using it as a whole-face cold cream but, since
the oats will also remove all makeup except last traces of mascara and
eyeliner, I’d stick to using vaseline on the eye area. The main reason is
that, while many find it non-comedogenic, others find it to be very clogging.
Remember, it’s an occlusive agent, meaning it forms a "very effective"
barrier between your skin and the air. For those who have success
moisturizing with it, it is due to the slowed evaporation of waters in the
    skin.
Only the driest skin types would use something this occlusive for
moisture … what is your skin type?
