Making my skin oilier than before… question for Katie36551

Friday, October 29th, 2004

Hi, Katie, I’ve read many of your posts on this board. I read one of
your posts about cleansers that strip the oils from the skin, causing
even more oiliness. That seems to be the problem I have come to. I
swith my cleanser between prescription benzoyl peroxide, a triclosan
cleasner and Purpose cleansing bar. Then I slop on the Benz Per.
lotion (terrified that if I don’t, my acne will come screaming back
with a vengence)My skin has finally cleared about 95% by having
switched to the more gentle cleaners (triclosan & Purpose) between
the BP and by discontinuing Retin-A micro (my skin improved greatly
using it for about 2-3 months, it was baby smooth and beautiful, but
then it got terrible again…it clogged my pores and made me very
greasy.) I now have been using OTC Stridex BP lotion 2.5% and have
added zinc, magnesium and calcium to my vitamin intake. I think this
has helped also (zinc is VERY important to your skin)Anyway, my
questuion is this… I have looked to try to find in your other posts

Just Joined. Simple Tip

Thursday, October 28th, 2004

Hi all,

I am new. Just to briefly introduce myself - my name is Mary, I am a mom of
seven adult children. We have had a variety of experiences with acne and
it certainly doesn’t magically end when you reach adulthood. We are always
looking for natural ways for help. I was doing some reading recently about
the oil of oregano for some other purpose and came across some interesting
information. With acne there could be many causes but ultimately there is
inflammation/infection where bacteria/fungi may be involved. The oil of
oregano has highly anti-bacterial properties so my daughter put it to the
test. With a carrier oil she applied therapeutic grade oregano to her face
and it did help quickly to heal the acne so I’m sure we touched on some of
the cause. We do see patterns of outbreaks according to her diet so there
is still some work to do. I just give encouragement to every one on the
list.

Successful acne management

Angelica, forgive the cut/paste rearrangement, but you’ve said it all
perfectly, and I just had to reiterate what you’ve said under a new title …

… I just had someone complement my skin tonight. They said it had really
cleared up and it was soft. I haven’t had a comment on my skin since I was a
teenager …
… my regime is an apricot scrub with sulfur soap. Differin. Aloe vera gel
with Miracell mixed in. Laser light treatments (just at the beginning).

Exactly. Skin that is properly cleansed for its type, is exfoliating
properly (or is appropriately assisted to do so), and skin that is kept
hydrated and soft (such as you’ve ensured by mixing aloe gel and Miracell)
will clear up much better than harsh, oil-stripping detergents, alcohol, and
dry-up products …

Hi!

I have several aloe plants in my backyard. Can I
use them in their raw state on my face,
or would nit be better to buy the refined aloe at
a health store?

Also, has anyone tried Victoria Principle’s makeup
and skincare line?

I have been thinking of trying it.

Thank you ;-) __________________________________________________

Part of it is stress, I do realize. My fiancé is a

I loved what royal jelly can do - when I could afford it !!! Honey’s the
poor-woman’s version, I guess … loaded with many good things, too.

MINDY …
Your routine is obviously drying your skin’s surface making the acne and
other problems (as you described) much worse. You need the right
moisturizing, exfoliating, softening … throw out your stuff and start over:

Buy some aloe juice at Walmart - usually under $8/gallon where I live (must
be refrigerated after opening) … or smaller quantities may be available at
health-food stores (they sell it for drinking, but I use it as a
super-enhanced water - very healing). Next, in a blender, grind up rolled
oats. Then combine equal measurements of ground oats, dry milk, and sugar.
This needs to be stored in a container that will not allow moisture in (once
moisture gets in, beastie germs can grow). I use a 2-cup rubbermaid with a
flip-top lid so I can close it with one hand after pouring a bit into the
other. A few drops of warm water to make a paste is what I do, but here’s
where you need to use the aloe juice …

Hi again. I am a 24 yr old SWF. I have really gross skin. I hate
waking up in the morning and looking in the mirror. I don’t leave the
house without a ton of makeup on, and that doesn’t even always help.
At the end of June (3 1/2 months from now) I am going on vacation
with my boyfriend. We are going to Las Vegas!! for about 5 days. He
has NEVER seen me without makeup on. I want to be able to enjoy my
time in Vegas, since I’ve never been.
I don’t want to have to run to the bathroom first thing in the
morning to throw my makeup on before he wakes up next to me and sees
my icky face. I also don’t want to constantly sleep in my makeup.
Another thing is swimming. It’s hot there in the summer and I will
want to go swimming, I’m sure. Does anyone have any tips/advice for
me at all?
I know that I shouldn’t worry so much about what he thinks, but I
really do. I’m so afraid that if he saw me with my "naked" face, he

Severe redness. HELP?? (makeup tips?)

Wednesday, October 20th, 2004

I am a 24 year old SWF and have adult acne and am planning on going
to see my dermatologist finally in a couple of weeks. I went once
before and the meds didn’t work.
My problem is that my skin doesn’t seem to heal very well. I am using
Avita cream on some spots and that seems to work a little bit to dry
out certain areas of acne. I will then get extremely dry patches of
skin on my face. When I try covering it with makeup, it just looks
like a hunk of dry skin with makeup-very obvious. So then I end up
peeling the skin off (no lotion or cream helps). It doesn’t bleed,
but then I have the tender skin showing. I put makeup on that and it
doesn’t absorb it at all.
So when I’m done doing my makeup, I look like crap. I have red spots.
Does anyone have any makeup tips to help conceal the redness? I’ve
tried Visine (doesn’t help) and even green makeup (looks gross).
I have a pretty active social life and this really depresses me when
