Please Help My Acne Problem

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

Fresh wash clothes each cleanse, sulfur soap, beta
hydroxy acid gel and 20,000 IU of beta carotene daily
for 3 months might do the trick! For longer term care
consider having a hormone profile done. Good luck!

What can I do about pores in the skin that are growing

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

Hi Mitra
What works for my clients is to use a clay mask
everyday for 2 minutes spread really thin on the
problem area. I have seen good results with french
clay mixed with milk of magnesia to the consistancy of
1/2 and 1/2 cream. If you would prefer a store brought
one, Lerosett works better than most on the market.
You can find it on-line. Hope that helps!

Please Help My Acne Problem

Friday, February 25th, 2005

I am a 30-year-old male and still suffer from acne. I really want to
get rid of the acne on my lower butt region. It is on the upper
thighs and right where my thigh and butt join. I get so frustrated
with this. I shower every day and wash thoroughly with soap. I
always put on clean clothes after my shower. I have never suffered
from this before, but it just started over the last few years or so.
Are there any tips, medicines or anything that might help me? I am
even embarrassed for my wife to see my butt because of all the acne!

What can I do about pores in the skin that are growing

Friday, February 25th, 2005

Hi
As everybody knows one of the factors for a nice skin is non existence of
visual pores.
in the other hand these pores are a cause of acne.

I have had some of these pores in my skin near the nose but recently they
are spreading.
I don’t know what can I do to decrease these pores. Recently I purchased
NIVEA 2*1 cleansing milk and toner that has "Hamamelis (0.5%)" which claims
it is pore tightener. But I used it 2 or 3 times and each time it caused my
skin became dry and red in some areas. So I can’t use it more to realize if
it is useful for pores.

WHAT TO DO….

Hi Keesha
I am an medical esthetician and I run a skin care clinic where we treat this
type of acne pretty frequently. From your describtion it sounds like grade 3-4
cystic acne and the location on your face indicates it is hormonally related.
Topical treatments do not help much- this type is best off with oral therapy and
cortisone injections right into the cysts. Having them injected is very
important as they can leave permanent holes and scars in the skin the longer
they sit around. Injections clear them up within 48 hours. Antibiotics are
pretty wothless as well but low dose birth control pills like Allesse seem to
work, or if your more inclined, herbal balancers. Either way, the first thing
would be to have a hormone profile done (saliva test) to measure estradiol,
projesterone, DHEA and testosterone ratios. This will tell you exactly where the
imbalance is and what type of hormonal therapy you can use to get on track.
Last but not least you can try Accutane which has a 80% clear rate. It is toxic
to the liver, requires weekly liver enzyme testing, can cause night blindness

Accutane

Karyn,

You are so right that not every product is right for everyone.
It would be so beneficial if you would copy and post some of these
articles you mentioned so that we could all read them and find them
in one place.

What other prescription products have you tried and how effective
were they for you.

Accutane

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005

Okay, I’m on digest and have seen all the Accutane messages coming through and
I’m glad! I’ve
felt almost like an outsider lately because all of the board talk has been about
natural remedies,
and I don’t know about them. What I do know about, however, is anything (almost
everything,
really) prescription. I’ve been seeing a derm now for the better part of 5
years, and I love him.
I really feel like we are trying products that work, but that’s my opinion. A
few weeks back,
someone said that a dermatologist was expensive. It can be. Do you have
insurance? Do you have
prescription coverage? Because that makes it incredibly affordable. A visit to
my derm is
cheaper than some of the products that I was buying and failed me. If you have

Question for Katie about Water

Monday, February 21st, 2005

Hey Katie. I have read all of your posts and really trust your
judgement. You always seem to know what your talking about when it
comes to this stuff. Anyway, my question was about water. We have a
water softner and it does wonders on my face compared to hard water.
I have mild eczema and acne on occasion, so my face is always a
little dry. I started washing my face and hair with filtered bottled
water a few days ago and noticed my face was extremly smooth, no
dryness at all. After a few days, I started to notice a few pimples.
Now I am broken out all over which is not normal for me. Do you think
this is due to the filtered water? Will it take time for the pH in my
skin to get used to it? If anyone has any input please let me know.
Thanks all…
-Ben

WHAT TO DO….

Sunday, February 20th, 2005

I don’t really have an acne problem but my problem area is around my
chin and jaw line. I don’t breakout with whiteheads or blackhead but
what seems to be under the skin. It’s like big red bumps and they
hurt. I was my face every morning in the shower and at night i clean
it with biore toner. I also get a few places on my shoulders. What
product would be helpful?????

New to Acnetips

Friday, February 11th, 2005

Hi group,

Just found this group and hope to learn and share a lot.

I recently finished a course of accutane and can honestly say that I
have seen a little improvemnet with my acne. The only problems I
have with it are that my skin is extremely dry, my lips are peeling -
still (I stopped accutane two months ago) and while on accutane my
hair started falling out. Now some guys look good bald, but I’m not
one of them. Does anyone else who’s used accutane know how long it
takes for your hair to stop falling out and grow back?

Thanks in advance,

Carl
