Mary,
I’m sorry you’re going through such a time. I’m 42 and I’m not looking
forward to menopause because I had my fair share of problems with hormones
already.
I wish I can help you, but I’m listening with big ears because I’m sure my
turn is coming! Good luck to you…

"Acne makeup" is that neutragena makeup with salicylic acid in it…
comes in different shades. It’s a liquid makeup foundation, I
think… I dunno 100%, I’m a guy. I just bought the stuff to cover up
the nasty redness that was kindly left behind by these bumps.
So once you stop Accutane, the stuff comes back? That sounds like a
disappointment. I don’t think it’d work for me anyway, as my acne
seems mainly attributed to humidity and oily skin.
I really do wish it’d clear up. I’ve heard about microdermabrasion,
but wanted to know about that, too.
Thanks.

What is ‘acne makeup’?? I’m going through menopause and I have adult
acne. I’ve been through 2 sessions of accutane and my skin stayed clear
for awhile, but it came back. They tried me on hormones, but it screwed
up my thyroid so that was enough for me! Does anyone know if the birth
control pill helps control hormones like the prempro does? I’m using
progesterone cream and estroven.
Thanks,
Mary

[Acne Tips] Microderm, hair removal and a summer rant…

summer! LOL.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to say that I officailly despise the
summer! LOL.
Reason being, my oily skin has tons of tiny bumps form throughout
the hot, humid months, and shows no sign of letting up for the 11
years I’ve had this acne problem. Recently, two bumps on my face
faded quickly, but left some "scarred" looking skin behind. After
washing my face that night, the skin peeled off, leaving a (to me)
nasty looking red patch behind (thankfully coverable with acne
makeup). What happened here? I didn’t touch them!
Anyway, is anyone else plague with this particular problem? I’ve
tried everything except Accutane and microdermabrasion. Both are
expensive, but microderm now has home versions that are claimed to
be good. Are they? I want to get a consensus before purchasing

As a guy I can relate. You don’t say but sometimes if you’re a
little overweight it can cause friction where the folds of the skin
meet.
I also have a problem that’s worse in the summer where the leather
from my belt will cause a ring of pimples all around my waist. I’ve
tried a lot of things but what I’ve found that worked the best was
my wife’s bath salts. Bath salts are actually pretty much the same
as epsom salts (the epsom salts are cheaper).
Salts work well to dry up moisture and in ancient times were used to
cleanse and purify wounds. They are reputed to be anti-bacterial and
anti-imflammatory.
So, my advice is - grab a beer and go soak in your wife’s bath
salts!! It just may do the trick.

It sounds like the acne on the upper thigh is really keratosis pilarsis, or
KP. It’s the growth
of excess skin around hair follicles, and is usually present on the upper arms
and upper thighs.
There is really no cure, but some treatments prove effective: Go to the drug
store and get a Buf
Puf. It can help exfoliate and smooth the area. You can also try a 12% OTC
lactic acid cream,
which also serves to exfoliate dead skin cells. A doctor can also prescribe
stronger lactic acid
products as well as creams like Retin A, which contain vitamin A derivatives.
This is one of the
newer approaches to KP, and my doctor loves this new idea. Like any acne
product though, these
products take a few weeks to see results.
