anti biotics pills

Hello all,
my doctor gave me anti biotic pills for my acne plus two gels to
apply. I want to ask: what does the anti biotic do really? and is
there any side effects besides the fact that u will get a tummy ache
if u take it on an empty stomache?

    I was on tetracyline and I’d take it in the morning and I’d get a queezie
    stomach.
