Nicomide Warning

Wednesday, December 14th, 2005

I just want to warn people about the use of Nicomide since it can be
hard to find information about.

Nicomide is a vitamin, thus not regulated by the FDA. I was
prescribed the vitamin by a dermatologist. I had a terrible side
effects that included skin reaction, anxiety, rapid pulse and blurred
vision. Though similar to the symptoms of an allergic reaction, it
was not. It seems the side effects of Nicomide are quite similar to
those of shock/allergic reaction.

I was searching the internet all day today before I found any
information. All the drug databases on Mayoclinic and WebMd did not
list nicomide…only the chemical name.

I just wanted to let everyone know that vitamins and supplements can

Red blobs? Would Proactiv help?

Tuesday, December 13th, 2005

Just wondering if Proactiv gets rid of the redness left over from
acne? I am currently on antibiotics for my acne (for 6 months) so
that problem is temporarily cured but I’m left with red blobs all over
my face. Not even really heavy make-up covers them. Is there a way
to get rid of them or will they ever go away on their own?

I’ve heard many good and bad stories about Proactiv but thought I
might give it a go if it is meant to work on red patches and not just
acne itself.

Any other suggestions?

Dear Courtney,
What you are experiencing is a build up of dead skin that is stuck in the hair
follicles. That is why it is more prevalent on your cheeks and jaw line. I
just made a posting about how ProActive is good at drying up acne but what is
left over is the acne that is stuck under all of the dead skin. What you need
is a peel. Something that will get rid of the dead skin that is blocking your
pores but yet something that will reduce inflammation. Does your breakout get
worse when you eat spicy foods (like the red patches you explained), drink
alcohol or get stressed out? If so, this is a sign of rosacea, but don’t worry,
that can be controlled as well. Rosacea is an inflammatory condition that
flares up with certain things. However, the redness can be present all the
time…just the breakout comes and goes. Are there blackheads present in those
areas? That is a determining factor with rosacea…it mimics acne but has to be
treated a little different.

Red blobs? Would Proactiv help?

Tuesday, December 13th, 2005

Dear Nicole,
It has been my experience with ProActive that it certainly works for awhile
especially drying out the acne, however, the amount of Benzoyl Peroxide in it
will leave the skin feeling very dry. What you are experiencing is the
aftermath of a breakout or hyperpigmentation. The tissue is still inflammed
under the skin and has a pink/red or brown tone to it. I would not try
ProActive at this time due to the drying nature of the products. What you need
is something to heal these areas. I have some products that I used in my
professional practice that are all aloe based and heal very well. This type of
aloe is not what you will find anywhere other than a dr. office. I could send
you some samples to help you out. I also have a product that will exfoliate the
skin so that there is no more breakout…kind of like getting a chemical peel as
well but with the aloe to support the healing and inflammation.

I’ve heard many good and bad stories about Proactiv but thought I

Laser skin resurfacing for scars

Sunday, December 11th, 2005

Hi,

I’m new to this group. My name is Claire, I live in Yorkshire,
England. I
had a monumental case of acne for throughout my teens and twenties.
I think
it might be what is called ‘cystic’ acne as I had huge boils which
erupted
deep from within the skin tissue.

It’s gone now, but I have been left with quite severe scarring. I
had about
65 punch exisions of keratinised scar tissue a few years back which
helped
with the discolouration and texture but I still have the pitting.

I’ve tried this and it truly works. The "drying lotion" is the best.
You can put this pink potion on a pimple and it is literrally gone
the next day. You will find the ads to order in all magazines.Try it.

professional acne tips

Friday, December 9th, 2005

Hello everyone,
I have been reading some of the tips on this newsgroup and thought I
would offer a few of my own being a professional esthetician.

Acne is so difficult because it is different for every individual.
There are several "grades" of acne ranging from grade 1 (a few
pimples) to grade 4 (severe cysts under the skin). What I would
like to do is offer some basic advice.

For the general population…most people have grade 1-2, which in
some instances is the hardest to clear up. Grade 4 is only
corrected by being on an antibiotic and using some topicals. Most
of the people I have treated have grade 1-2. Exfoliation is the
most beneficial way to reduce breakout. But, what type and how
much? Mechanical exfoliation is the scrubs and microdermabrasion.
