Please Help! New adult onset acne driving me crazy!
I was lucky enough to not have bad acne as a teenager, but now that I
am 25, I cannot get a clear face! I am getting acne on my forehead,
cheeks and around my mouth. My dermatologist gave me Differin (put
it on my face every night), and Periostat (low-dose antibiotics). I
had to get off the antibiotics after one month because I changed
insurance companies and it was too expensive. Now, I can afford it
again, but don’t know if I should start back on it or go to a
dermatologist first (I have moved so I can’t go back to the one who
originally prescribed it for me). The Differin does not seem to be
doing much for me at all. Please share with me things you have done
that work, or any ideas you might have. Also, is there anyone else
out there that didn’t get acne until they were an adult? I feel
weird! Thanks!

Hi I’m the same age as you are and I didnt have acne either as a teen just
maybe the occasional pimple but that was it nothing bad. Now that I’m an
adult my acne is terrible or at least to me. I went back in Aug to see a
derm for the first time and he gave me Tetoronin antibiotic topical cream
(for day) and Duac Gel with benzoyl peroxide (for night) both of these have
helped tremendously the Duac has even started diminishing the appearance of
scars. I also use Avon’s PoreFection line that is formulated especially for
adult acne. This is my routine
Morning
1. Wash with PoreFection Cleanser
2. Apply Porefection Toner (sorry cant remember the exact name on bottle)
3.Apply Porefection Spot Blemish Remover (I think it may be treatment)
4. Apply Porefection oil control moisturizer
5. Then I apply my Tetoronin cream I do it last because it leaves my face
feeling oily and greasy but not if i put it on last
Night
1.Wash with PoreFection Cleanser
2.Apply PoreFection Toner
3.Apply Porefection oil control moisturizer (optional your skin may be dried
out with the other products but mine still feels oily of morning if I dont
use moisturizer too)
4. Now I put my Duac gel on but if you are using a benzoyl peroxide ointment
you might not want to use an oil control moisturizer it will dry you out too
much sometimes all the Porefection products are dry out the skin some.
