I am a licensed esthetician and feel I can offer some professional advice before
you spend money on a dermatologist.
First of all, you are kind of on the money but skin sensitivity can be a factor
of several things. Sensitive skin is actually the result of a thinned out
dermis. This happens over time with the outer layer of skin getting thicker.
The thicker the epidermis (outer layer) the thinner the dermis (middle layer).
What this means is that the dermal layer isn’t getting the things it needs to be
healthy because the outer layer is blocking it. So it mimics sensitivity.
The products that you are using that are drying out your skin are doing so
because your outer layer is so thick that the product can’t get moisture into
the dermis. The basic key for you is exfoliation. You need to get rid of that
thickened outer layer so that the products you use can reach the dermis. I
